One of the main causes of stress and stressful
illnesses is the continual brooding over negative aspects of
life. This kind of ruminating triggers powerful emotions within
you like feeling unhappy, agitated, annoyed and frightened. The
less negative brooding you perform, the greater you reduce
stress. Doing activities that require you to concentrate will
help and here are three excellent, fun stress management
activities you can easily introduce to your stress
management program.
1. Move Your Body - One of the best stress relievers is
regular exercise, however, it will only work with exercises
where you're concentrating fully on what you're doing. One of my
closest friends is passionate about golf! He'll play a round of
golf to help him deal with stress. You have to concentrate fully
to hit the ball just right and my friend reckons that hitting
the ball is a great way to let out tension. Ju-jistu was
particularly good for me, and it does require high levels of
concentration. An acquaintance of mine enjoys boxercise
workouts. All of these will reduce stress and your body will
benefit from the exercise.
2. Unleash Your Creativity - A superb way to manage
stress is to write as it is an activity that requires full
concentration. A lot of people keep journals to help get their
thoughts in order. I'm a keen essayist specializing in the two
world wars. Why not write about subjects you're interested in?
Or maybe you can express yourself through art? Painting and
drawing are two great stress busters and like writing, are
creative, stimulating and rewarding. A canny idea is to use the
Internet to search for sites that can help you get started.
3. Feel The Beat - Music is possibly the best way to
reduce stress. Although it is gratifying to be able to play a
musical instrument, music can relieve stress in other ways.
Dancing is one great example and taking classes to learn how to
dance is another great idea. Another good idea is to learn the
history of your favorite songwriters and bands. One thing I love
doing is learning the story of a song. It's an engaging pursuit
that won't just alleviate stress, anxiety and depression, it
makes listening to music much more enjoyable. You don't have to
do just one of these, you can do them all and you'll soon
discover just how effective music is at alleviating stress,
depression and anxiety.
Introduce as many of these stress management activities into
your weekly schedule as you can. The number one goal is to cut
down on injurious ruminating and each one will help you do that.
As well as being gratifying, you'll notice an improvement with
